2015 Inspired Teacher Leader Jan Schuettpelz was featured in a piece published in The Northwest Current, describing her designation as the DCPS Teacher of the Year. “When we look to find the Teacher of the Year, we look to find teachers that have demonstrated that their students are growing, …that they have an unquenchable thirst to learn, and to grow and to be better,” Deputy Mayor for Education Jennie Niles said following the announcement.

This winter, Real World History student Maya Branch gave a speech as part of the Project Soapbox competition, making a case for fighting Black hyper-masculinity. In this 2-minute speech, Maya demonstrates her ability to connect history to the issues that matter to her today, along with a mastery of the skills of historians such as critical thinking and persuasive communication.

Inspired Teaching supports teachers, students at Think It Up Live
Inspired Teaching’s Cosby Hunt served as an expert mentor and facilitator at Think It Up Live, held at Cardozo Education Campus in Washington, DC. Think It Up aims “to excite students about learning, celebrate teachers, and help innovate the learning experience in America.” The event brought together student-teacher teams to create projects designed by the students to benefit their communities.

OECD visits Inspired Teaching as part of international study
A team from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) visited the Inspired Teaching Demonstration School to learn about the residency-based Inspired Teacher Certification Program. Inspired Teaching was one of a select few sites in the United States, as the OECD investigates effective, innovative teacher preparation worldwide.

Delegation of the best principals in Brazil visit Inspired Teaching
“I have read how to teach children how to think, not what to think, and now I see it here. I would like to know whether this can happen in Brazil, too.” A delegation comprising the most outstanding principal in each state of Brazil visited the Inspired Teaching Demonstration School.
