This weekend, Inspired Teaching partnered with PureFire Yoga in Bethesda, MD to host Inspired Breathing for Inspired Teaching, a powerful workshop through which teachers learned how to bring new attention and intention to something we do every day: breathing.

Along with our expert guest facilitator Catherine Dahlman, an Ayurvedic yogi, neuromuscular therapist, and breathwork expert, we explored the ways in which intentional breathing can calm our nervous systems, help us understand and meet needs, and even fuel joy. And we learned to distinguish between downtime and productive rest.

By linking yoga poses and specific breathing techniques to Inspired Teaching’s ABCDE of Learner Needs, we discovered how…

  • looking inward fuels Autonomy
  • being fully present in the moment bolsters Belonging
  • practicing the breath of joy supports our need for Fun
  • and much more!

Click to listen to this week’s Hooray For Monday podcast for our interview with Catherine Dahlman.

She describes the ways intentional breathing can support us in our hectic lives as teachers, including the science behind how and why the way we breathe affects our bodies and minds.

Wishing you a restorative and uplifting winter break.
