Why:
As we near the end of 2020, it’s easy to recount the many ways in which this year has worn educators out. Within the challenge, however, there have been moments of discovery, opportunities to upend the status quo, and in between the chaos, even an element of joy.
When Inspired Teaching codified its 5 core elements nearly a decade ago, at first there were just four:
- Mutual Respect
- Student as Expert
- Purpose, Persistence, and Action
- Wide Ranging Evidence of Student Learning
But our colleague Kate Keplinger brought to our attention that joy is an essential ingredient if we are to thrive in the work that we do. One thing we know about joy is that it grows when it is shared.
So join us the first week in December to celebrate the wins, small and large, that you’ve found over these tumultuous months. Here are a few of the things we’ll explore to help you persevere through the coming winter:
- New self-care techniques
- Classroom activities
- Instructional engagement strategies
- Techniques for providing effective feedback
- Class wrap-up ideas
Participation is free, thanks to the support of our foundation partners. Register for one or both sessions. Everyone who registers for one of the two Institutes by November 23 will receive a small package of joy in the mail that includes materials you’ll use during the event.
