Partner Feature – DC Public Schools

Center for Inspired Teaching has been based in Washington, DC, since its founding in 1995, and we have been proud to work with teachers, administrators, and leaders from DC Public Schools for over twenty years. Most recently, Inspired Teaching and DCPS ran a formal partnership to develop Teacher Leaders who could lead their peers across the district in implementing rigorous, inquiry-based, standards-aligned instruction.

Deal Teacher Wins School System’s Top Honor

2015 Inspired Teacher Leader Jan Schuettpelz was featured in a piece published in The Northwest Current, describing her designation as the DCPS Teacher of the Year. “When we look to find the Teacher of the Year, we look to find teachers that have demonstrated that their students are growing, ...that they have an unquenchable thirst to learn, and to grow and to be better,” Deputy Mayor for Education Jennie Niles said following the announcement.

Jan Schuettpelz, 2015 Inspired Teacher Leader, named DC Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year

Jan Schuettpelz, a 2015 Inspired Teacher Leader, was awarded Teacher of the Year for the District. Jan is a seventh grade science teacher at Alice Deal Middle School. She participated in the Inspired Teaching Institute in school year 2015-2016, building her skills in engagement-based instruction in order to ensure her classroom is a vibrant learning community in which lessons are, in her words, “hands-on, minds-on.”

Inspired Teacher Leaders facilitate professional development for peers

Inspired Teaching's Caitlin Wolf describes her experience at one of the district-wide professional development days hosted by DC Public Schools throughout the school year. This year, Inspired Teaching’s SCALE: Science Curriculum Advancement through Literacy Enhancement Teacher Leaders have been asked to lead several of the sessions, introducing the Cornerstones they’ve developed for use in DCPS schools and facilitating inquiry-based PD experiences.
